I have Gigabyte EP45-UD3L
Q9550 processor
NVIDIA GTS 250 vga
Kingston 2G
ATX 400W power supply

This is reasonably not a low capacity computer, yet the computer is slow. To sign in to MSN takes almost 2 to 3 mins to login. At a point it freezes. I'm using Windows SP3. Could it be the problem?

For running slow there are many causes:

Microsoft Registry Problems

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.

Registry Cleaner can fix your pc errors.

Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software's, install new devices,

download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.

This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.

Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.

Clean registry make pc faster.

This computer should NOT be slow--you have a good build.

You need to investigate a little more:

1. open task manager

2. under processes, which ones are using up the most memory?

3. under performance, how much of your cpu and ram is the computer using?

Initial Ideas:

Use either CCleaner or Microsoft Defender (both free) to find out what your startup programs are. Many of them are probably useless and can be turned off. (the other functionalities of these programs will help too) Windows defender will give you information about the processes that use the most memory. Some of them are not essential and can be disabled.

Open the uninstaller and see if there is are programs you dont use that came with the computer. Many programs run in the background even when they are not running--uninstalls might help.

Finally, you may have some network conflict that is causing your computer to freak out. I had an issue once where my computer kept looking for a network printer that wasnt there...

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.

2. Click Run

3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

6. Click "OK"

There is most likely a process or processes running in the back ground. (virus)

Press control - alt - delete at the same time to get in to the task manager, then go to the processes tab then the cpu column and see what processes are hogging all the power.

Under the cpu column most of the apps running on the left should be 0 or very low. if you have something running at 100% like svhost then it could just be the windows automatic update is stuck (happens a lot) turn off windows update in the control panel temporarily to see if this helps.

You can google the things that are taking up cpu resources to see if they are legitimate programs or a possible virus.

Download MBAM anyway and run a scan.

You may have to do this by starting up in safe mode as you are having probs with normal mode.

Also run a disk defragment from accessories when you get a chance.

Most computers actually run slow because of a hidden part of your system, which is constantly being used by Windows. This part of your PC is called the "registry" and is the central database for Windows, which stores everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper. It's one of the most important parts of Windows and can easily make your PC run slow. The more corrupt registry files your computer has, the more it struggles to read them. The files which makes it run slower and slower. To fix this, you simply need to use a registry cleaner http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com . These are small software tools which actually work by scanning through the registry and fixing any bad files that are in there. This then allows Windows to read as many files as it wants, when it wants to.

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

Well in just about all groups, your web is actually plugged into a few field on or close your road. When all people plugged into that field attempt to max out their web connections you can also enjoy a few slower web. As on your pc, it does have some thing to do with it. Your internet browser has to load, and your pc runs it. Viruses too can gradual down your pc and take in plenty of your web connection, making it look gradual

Your PC is alright. Power supply is a bit small, but that will not be the problem.
