I have Windows XP SP2 installed on my system and I have place it on Drive C: to which I have assigned 10GB out of my total 40GB hard disk capacity. I have been experiencing problems lately due to less capacity in drive C: because the free space has become only 180MB. How can I add more capacity to drive C: without having to reinstall windows and more importantly formatting my hard disk?
Please remember that I am asking how I can add more capacity WITHOUT having to reinstall WinXP or format the drive. The most easiest and comprehensive answer will be voted the best by me.

this is actually not possible

without a data loss you cannot do this

what you can do is u can shift the contents of ur personal files and movie files to a different drive

and if u can format and loose data then all type of resizing is possible

but for sure you cannot do a resize of the c drive without formatting.

Not sure you can add further capacity without having to reformat the drive. Try partition magic if you need a progam, but as far as adding capacity on the same drive without reformating to me is unknown. Ah but today..err yesterday being boxing day external hard drives are cheap..really cheap. 70$ for 620 gb external HD walmart..yea..so your best option really is just go but a cheap external HD. cheers.

you can do many things

first of all use disc clean up and move your "my documents" from C: to another drive.

to do this right click on my documents and then choose properties and click on "change target" button

but if your problem is not solved

you can use programs like partition magic

partition magic allows you to split another partition and then merge the free space with your C: partition

good luck

hmmm... depends on ur file system.... see what file system you got on C: drive. if its NTFS, then you can go to C: drive's properties and check "Compress drive to save disk space"..... whole of the files, including Windows files will start to get compressed. be patient, it will take time. Believe me , if u got thousands of files on any drive they can be compressed this way. More files, more compression. This will be like zipping the file, but in this case there wont be any unzipping. But remember, movies and songs will bot be compressed much this way !!!

wont work for FAT and FAT32, as they dont support file compression :(
