Question:
Vista: not enough memory available to complete operation?
2009-05-25 07:57:29 UTC
Vista seems to have this strange idea that i don't have enough memory left. I don't know why this is, it is obvious that i have enough and i just deleted 6GB of memory. Although things still work like the internet, whats frustrating is the fact that i cannot use sound, disk defragmenter, reboot or even do system restore. I decided to google it and lots of suggestions arose, none of which worked. All im looking for now is a way to reboot my computer, not directly fix it.

Thanks in advance.

That message may well relate to the Random Access Memory (RAM) in the machine rather than hard disk space as you infer.

1GB Ram is minimum for Vista to work with any sort of reliability, 2GB is good for Vista.

Without getting any more technical or giving any advice, we would need more and better quality information from you.

Deleting stuff off your hard-drive is NOT the same as freeing up memory (RAM) - they're two COMPLETELY separate components !

Vista needs at LEAST 1GB of RAM to function - but the more the better ! I'm running Vista on a laptop with 2GB RAM - with no problems !

First, memory refers to the RAM (Random Access Memory), not "storage" (hard drive space).

Vista Home Basic 32bit should have at least 1 gig of RAM

Vista Home Premium 32bit should have at least 2 gigs of RAM

I prefer 4 gigs when running Premium and 2 gigs for Basic.

Ram is very cheap these days, so install as much as your computers motherboard can handle.

boot the cd, when your asked what partition you want to install, click advanced drive > delete the partition, do this on all the partitions, finally click 'New', dont adjust the disk volume click ok
