Hi, I am a bit of a virgin with coputers, so bear with me.

I dont know technical terms, but I need to clean some crap off my pc. My harddrive shows only about 10% space left, ive deleted some music, deleted photos, run a disc cleanup and defragged it.

Surely there must be some other way of getting more space?

I tried using a program from Iobit, that seems to help a bit, but it brought up loads of stuff that when I opened, was just rubbish such as soundclips from websites - stupid stuff stuff from my daghter browsing barbie, hannah montana and high school musical - just clips of catchy phrases and stuff. It must get put on the pc from the websites, but I have no idea how to get rid of it.

Can nyone guide me through how to get some of this rubbish off my pc?

Loads of the iles I see are just numbers I have no idea what they are, if they are important or not. I use he internet a lot, am wondering if every website I go to seems to download some little bit of crap that clogs things up further...

If anyone has some advise or can direct me to a trustworthy website to download something to deep clean, that would be great.

Many thanks,

Lozz xxx

Try using an optimising program like glary utilities. It has a one button utility that gets rid of lots of unwanted files off your computer. I use it every day and it gets rid of all my unwanted files. It also has modules to scan your PC for duplicate and empty files that can also clog up your pc memory

Its a free download you can get from here,

I would say personally if it has got into that state, is to back off all the stuff you want to keep and do a clean install of the OS and start again.

Then I would set up your daughter with a user account so she can't download loads of junk.

It's a bit difficult to advise without actually seeing what's on it. One would have to go through the whole of the C: drive structure to see exactly what's on it.

Have you got a knowledgeable friend who could look it over for you before you make a decision?

when in doubt, use a very soft-damp-cloth. never spray anything directly onto the monitor - that's a very bad thing to do. you can buy lcd screen cleaners at places like office-max. maybe even walmart. although, i do everything i can not to have to go to walmart. so i suggest either office-max or even better - some little mom & pop type office supply store. they appreciate your business much more than those 'big' outfits, and they're much more personable.

Hi, I would recommend you download Ccleaner which clears out a lot of rubbish. Is there any software that you don't use which you can delete. I would also download Tune Up Utilities which gives a months free trial and that has a lot of options on it to clean and speed up your computer.

Try to use CCleaner. It is a pretty good program.

You can download it here:

A good alternative is to get an external harddrive to keep all the data. Not only will it preserve space, but it will also keep your files backed up, in case your computer crashes.

I recommend that you use WinDirStat to analyze the contents of your hard drive. CCleaner is also a good program for removing unneeded files.
