When you hit the Print Screen key, windows takes a snapshot of whatever is currently on your screen and saves it to the clipboard. After you've taken the screenshot, just open a photo editing or drawing program on your computer such as MS Paint and paste the image into a new file (ctrl+v).

After you press 'prt scr" you need to go to a blank document and select paste. It is a basically a copy and paste operation.
Pressing prt scr selects everything on the screen while alt + prt scr selects only the active window.

I'm assuming you know where it is on your keyboard, so I'm guessing you just want to know what it does.
It basically just copys the whole screen to the clipboard, so you can paste the screen anywhere else.
