Question:
I can't send files to the Recycle Bin without Windows Explorer stopping and then restarting. Help?

I cannot send a file(s) to the Recycle Bin nor can I delete files in the recycle bin without Windows Explorer hanging up. I then must go to the task manager and end the task I had just tried to complete.

After clicking on "End Task" I get the following message:

"Windows Explorer has stopped working"
"Windows is searching for a solution to this problem"
"Windows Explorer is restarting..."

After it restarts, the file(s) have either been moved to the recycle bin or emptied from it as I had previously tried to do. Although I get the task done this "freezing" problem is most annoying. The operating system I am using is Windows Vista.

Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

Right click the recycle bin and click properties.

change the setting to let you drop all files without confirmation

then change it back.... also give your disk a little more room to hold them

you might have too many old files waiting to be deleted...

PS. timbuk4 had a good answer too...

but im not sure it will give you a "recycle bin" icon after its been deleted....

You didnt say if you "dragged and dropped" or right clicked to delete...

Sounds like Windows explorer has become unstable. Download Ccleaner and give your registry a check,it will probably find tons of errors which will hopefully restore Explorer.

Delete the Recycle Bin

Windows will replace it on next boot
