It depends on what brand and model of TV you have. It would have to have a VGA or DVI connection to accept a computer signal. Check your TV manual or maybe glance at the back of the TV to find the correct port you need.
If you have either a VGA or DVI connection, simply connect the cable to the back like you would a regular monitor, and then use your remote or menu buttons to toggle your video to "PC".

VGA and DVI are not the only way you can connect your TV to your computer to use it as a monitor. My guess is your TV does not have either one of these connections on it. VGA looking like the port on the back of your computer that your monitor plugs into. And DVI being a white connecter that has a sort of crosshair type connection on the left side of the port. Both of these are usually only found on high end TVs. What you need to do is loot at the back of your computer and see what kind of ports are on your video card. Most just have a VGA port or DVI port. Most newer cards now come with S-Video ports on them. It is more likely that your TV will have an s-video in port on the back of it vs. VGA or DVI. If it does you can simply plug a s-video cable in between your computer and TV. If your TV does not have an s-video port on it, you can buy small converters that will convert a s-video signal to an audio video cable. (The yellow red and white ports on the back of your TV) The yellow is the video cable and you would plug this into your TV, and set your TV to the right input to use it as a monitor. Note too that dependent on your video card and version of your video card driver in your computer you can use your TV as a screen in different ways. You can simply use it as your monitor, you can duplicate your video so that the same thing displays on your TV as does your computer monitor. Also you can split your signal so that half of your desktop is on your computer monitor and the other half on your TV. You will just have to play around with it. Also note that your TV is not capable of displaying pictures at as high of resolution as your computer monitor can display. It may be hard to read what is on the screen if you use your TV as a monitor.
