I have been to their website and downloaded all of their drivers. I have been to the top 10 results on Google and downloaded their drivers. I have tried everything except asking strangers. I'm getting very frustrated, and am worried that my ASUS will mysteriously end up in pieces all over my room unless I can fix this stupid problem. I have tried both + and - media in both CD and DVD format, from different manufacturers. Please, help. I'm holding a hammer right now and I keep looking at my drive.

You don't need drivers for any kind of cd/dvd drive. it just works. All you need is burning software like Nero or Roxio. What you might be missing is an ASPI driver. It's a core file that windows uses for burning (kind of). When you install Nero or Roxio, it should check to see if that file is there and usually fixes it if it's not. If you already have one of those softwares, completely uninstall it then re-install it. That should fix the problem. Try using windows to burn files to a cd. Just drag files directly on the cd drive and see if they are queued up to burn, then burn them if so. It should work. Also check to make sure DMA is enabled on the controllers. Go to device manager and double-click on IDE\ATA ATAPI controllers. Under "Advanced" on the transfer mode drop box, make sure "DMA if available" is selected.

If that doesn't work, try another cd drive. Any one will do. If it works, then the Asus drive might be defective.
